Festival: Girls purchasing rakhis at a shop in Hassan on Tuesday. HASSAN: Wednesday is Raksha Bandhan and the festival is celebrated on a large scale in Hassan. The Spandana Foundation generally organises Raksha Bandhan celebrations at Chikka Basadi wherein witnessed many girls will tie rakhis to boys irrespective of caste and creed. General secretary of the Hassan district gold-silver merchants’ association B.N. Pramod said “Spandana” has been celebrating this festival for the past two decades and rakhi-tying sessions are held throughout the day. Raksha Purnima has been organised at the Javenahalli Math here on Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. and seer Sangameswara Swamiji would bless the celebrations. This has been celebrated as “Sadbhava Samgama”. H.S. Shantaveerappa will preside over the function while zilla panchayat chief executive officer M.K. Iyyappa will be present.
