Ask Centre to declare district backward, says MP As many as 50,000 people sick, feeble: TD MLA
Taking stock: Revenue Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao addressing DDRC meeting at the ZP hall in Srikakulam on Saturday. Srikakulam: District in-charge Minister and Minister for Rural development Vatti Vasanth Kumar has called upon the district administration, particularly the agriculture department, to be ready with alternative cropping plans in the context of deficit rainfall and emerging drought conditions. Participating in the district development review committee meeting held at the Zilla Parishad conference hall on Saturday, Mr. Vasanth Kumar promised to contribute his mite for the overall development of the district. He called upon agricultural authorities to be ready with contingency plans for neutralising drought conditions. Transport Minister Satrucherla Vijayarama Raju, while hailing the appointment of Vasantha Kumar as in-charge Minister, appealed to the Minister to liberally sanction funds for development of rural infrastructure. He asked the Minister to ensure that the modernisation works of all flood banks be undertaken after the monsoon season. ‘Ensure progress’ Revenue Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao, while heartily welcoming the in-charge Minister, recalled his association with the district in the past on the political front and hoped that the district would make rapid progress. Srikakulam MP Killi Krupa Rani appealed to the Minister to use his good offices to influence the Centre to ensure identification of Srikakulam district as the backward district along with other 225 districts which were identified as backward districts in the country. MLC Gorle Haribabu congratulated the Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy for acting promptly on the 33 Vamsadhara engineers by suspending them and holding them responsible for the irregularities in the shutters installation scandal. The lone TDP MLA Sairam offered his cooperation to the government and the district authorities in the process of solving the problems of the people in his constituency. He said that in a constituency with a population of 2 lakhs a record number of 50,000 people were feeble and sick, suffering from some disease or the other. District Collector Nagulapalle Srikanth said that the district administration is ready with contingency plans to deal with surfacing drought conditions. Alternative cropping plans have been readied. He said measures were being taken to arrest migrations to other places. ZP Chairman Palavalasa Rajasekhar, Government whip K. Murali, Joint Collector Sridhar and other officials were present.
