Rajasthan Governor S. K. Singh congratulating Justice Jagdish Bhalla soon after the latter was sworn in as the new Chief Justice of Rajasthan High Court in Jaipur on Monday. JAIPUR: Justice Jagdish Bhalla was sworn in as the new Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court here on Monday. Governor S. K. Singh administered the oath of office to him at a simple ceremony in Raj Bhavan here. Mr. Justice Bhalla took the oath in English in the name of God. State Chief Secretary Kushal Singh read out the Presidential Warrant for his appointment. Mr. Justice Bhalla, who was appointed Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court in February last year, was transferred to Rajasthan on August 3. Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, his Cabinet colleagues, Leader of Opposition Vasundhara Raje, Judges of the High Court, lawyers, chairpersons of various Commissions, senior officers and Mr. Justice Bhalla’s wife Renu and family members attended the swearing-in ceremony. Born on November 1, 1948, Mr. Justice Bhalla started legal practice in the Allahabad High Court in 1971. He was elevated as a Judge of the Allahabad High Court in 1995. Talking to media persons after the swearing-in ceremony, Mr. Justice Bhalla said the backlog of cases in courts could be cleared with collective efforts by the Bench and the Bar. The application of modern technology, including Internet and video-conferencing, would help in speedy disposal of cases, he added. While seeking cooperation of all members of the judiciary, Mr. Justice Bhalla said the cases of elderly persons should be accorded the highest priority.
