Special Cabinet meeting to be held in Gulbarga

Special Correspondent

Support sought for Valmiki Naik

‘Congress, JD(S) failed to dislodge BJP Government’

Maths to be granted funds despite criticism

Nalwar (Gulbarga district): Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa on Tuesday announced that a special Cabinet meeting would be held in Gulbarga either in the last week of August or in the first week of September. The situation in the State arising out of deficient rainfall and other problems of the people of the Hyderabad Karnataka region will come up for discussion during the special Cabinet session.

Mr. Yeddyurappa was speaking at a public meeting in Nalwar town organised to campaign for the party candidate Valmiki Naik in the byelection to Chitapur Assembly seat.

Recalling that the Cabinet meeting held in September last year had taken important decisions pertaining to the development of the Hyderabad Karnataka region, he said the Cabinet session this year will prove to be a boon to the region.

Lambasting the Congress and Janata Dal (S) for “levelling charges and launching a vilification campaign” against the BJP Government in the State, Mr. Yeddyurappa said the leaders of the two parties appear to have not learnt lessons from the last election to Assembly and Lok Sabha. The people taught them a lesson in the last election for their divisive politics and had shown them the door, he added.

“The Congress was drubbed in the byelections held to eight Assembly seats last time and the people of the five Assembly constituencies where bypoll would be held, Congress would meet the same fate as last time,” he added. The Congress and JD (S) continued to put in efforts to dislodge the BJP Government in the State but “all their attempts have failed and now they were using this byelection to renew their attempts to dislodge the BJP Government in the State”.

Speaking on the welfare schemes launched in the State, Mr. Yeddyurappa questioned why the Congress-run States were not emulating the BJP Government by launching schemes like the Bhagyalakshmi Insurance Scheme for the girl child.

Referring to the criticism of the Congress and JD (S) that the BJP Government was sanctioning funds to the religious institutions and maths,

Mr. Yeddyurappa said: “I have given funds for the development of religious institutions and maths in the State and I will continue to give money for these religious institutions for their overall development and nobody can stop me from doing this”.

Health Minister Sriramulu, Minor Irrigation Minister Govind Karjol and Valmiki Naik spoke on the occasion.

Many other Ministers also attended the meeting.
