CHENNAI: John Wright, the former India coach who is currently a New Zealand selector, will join the New Zealand ‘A’ squad here on Thursday night. Wright, who is also New Zealand Cricket’s Elite Coaching Manager, will assist coach Anthony Stuart during the all-India Buchi Babu cricket tournament to be played here later this month. “John will be joining us,” said New Zealand ‘A’ manager George Morris. “He will stay for the duration of the tournament, helping coach the side. He spent time in Australia with the Emerging Players side and his coming over will be in keeping with his role in the development of New Zealand cricket. Obviously, his having coached here will be an advantage for us.” Wright’s stay in India will also coincide with the Kolkata Knight Riders announcing John Buchanan’s successor. The Kolkata franchise, which has contacted Wright among others about the coaching job, will make its decision by the end of the month. Knight Riders CEO Joy Bhattacharya, when contacted about Wright, chose not to comment. New Zealand ‘A’ will play back-to-back practice matches here on Wednesday and Thursday in the lead-up to the Buchi Babu tournament. — Special Correspondent
