KOCHI: A biscuit show will be organised by the Ernakulam district committee of Bakers’ Association Kerala at Abad Plaza on August 13. About 200 representatives of the bakery sector will participate in the programme. Various techniques used for manufacturing modern varieties of biscuits will be demonstrated at the show. Many of the bakers in Kerala have acquired skills required for the production of most of the products marketed by multinational companies, according to P.M. Sankaran, State president of the association. Locally-made products are able to compete with the multinational products in quality and they could be offered at affordable prices. It would benefit both the consumer as well as the smaller players in the industry, he said. The association has been engaged in various procedures to ensure adoption of hygienic practices by the members. The association, in close coordination with the food industry authorities, had launched systematic examination of the production centres to issue quality certificates.
