HYDERABAD: The Transport Department’s much-hyped E-LLR (Electronic Learner’s Licence) testing format, facilitating the service of accommodating more applicants to take Learner’s License test on a given day is yet to take off. The E-LLR format developed at a cost of Rs. 6 lakh was launched as a pilot project at Khairatabad by former Transport Minister Kanna Laxminarayana on February 10 early this year. The department developed the E-LLR testing format as a better alternative to the existing computerised driving licence format. Under the present format, aspirants have to take tests on individual computers and this is leading to non-availability of slots for others to take tests. No vacancyAs a result, candidates aspiring to take a two-wheeler learner’s licence test at Nagole RTA have to wait till October 3 as there is no vacancy of slots. Similar is the situation at other RTA zones in the city. Slots are booked till October 6 at Kondapur, September 9 at Khairatabad. The objective of E-LLR format is to accommodate more candidates and make it convenient for them in obtaining the Learners’ Licence without having to wait for many days. The E-LLR format is better since candidates will be grouped into a batch of 40 each to take the test on any given day. If required, more candidates can be accommodated in more batches. Questions would be flashed on a giant screen and candidates have to answer the questions by clicking buttons on a hand-held reader, explained a senior official. Authorities were working onto flash the questions in three languages - Telugu, Hindi and English. During the trials, there were problems in flashing the questionnaire and a special team from Pune arrived to fix them. Perhaps that is the reason for delay in operating the system, informed the official. Based on the response from candidates, it is planned to introduce the system at other RTA offices in the city.
