Goa NRI panel awaits nod for 100 jobs in Europe

Special Correspondent

PANAJI: The Goa NRI Affairs Commission is awaiting a nod from the Ministry of Overseas Indians’ Affairs for a pilot project to train and place 100 workers in the hospitality sector in the European Union (EU).

Goa Commissioner of NRI Affairs Eduardo Faleiro said here on Wednesday that the hospitality sector was a key area where Goa could maximise labour mobility in association with EU countries.

‘First of its kind’

Mr. Faleiro said that the project, which could, in all probability, be the first of its kind in the country, was proposed to be held in association with the Union Ministry because it was that Ministry which had to authorise a tripartite meeting proposed to be held involving the chairman and managing director of Goa government’s Overseas Employment Agency, representatives of the Ministry and that of the City & Guilds of the United Kingdom.
