Metro panel to probe derailment

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has appointed a four-member team to investigate the derailment of a metro train at Dwarka here on Wednesday.

The probe team, which includes General Manager (Operations), General Manager (Signals and Telecommunication) and General Manager (Maintenance), will also have a former Indian Railways official, Gobind Ballabh, as Adviser (Traffic).

The team has been given a week to submit its findings.

A Delhi Metro spokesperson said the train operator was being questioned and they were unable to pinpoint the reason for the mishap. The spokesperson said a breath analyser test that the train operator was asked to take revealed that he had not consumed alcohol at the time of the mishap.

The operator had failed to stop at the signal and shot ahead even as the tracks were not yet ready for the train to move ahead.
