NEW DELHI: Union Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor returned to his alma mater here on Thursday to deliver a lecture on “International Relations: Why Bother?”

Addressing a packed hall at Delhi University’s St. Stephen’s College, Mr. Tharoor spoke on the importance of international relations in today’s globalised world and reasoned how the country could not remain isolated from the rest of the world.

He said a lot of cooperation was needed between countries on different issues.

Mr. Tharoor also mentioned how India’s rich culture had made a huge impact on the world in the past several years.

Later he had an interactive question-answer session with the audience who sought his response on a host of issues, including the country’s foreign policy and India’s relations with the US.

After the lecture, Mr. Tharoor had lunch with the teachers.
