Rs.400-crore cyclone shelter project

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Union Minister of State for Home Mullappally Ramachandran on Friday announced a Rs.400-crore cyclone shelter project covering the coastal panchayats in the State under the National Cyclone Risk Mitigation Scheme.
Addressing a press conference after a meeting with the State government officials on various issues related to disaster management here on Friday, Mr. Ramachandran said the project would be funded by the World Bank and would be available as grant-in-aid. The cyclone shelters to be named as “Suraksha” would have multi-purpose facilities that could be used for various requirements such as community halls and shelters during cyclone disasters.
