KOLLAM: Punalur Bishop Selvister Ponnumuthan on Friday launched SWEEP (Social Work to Ensure Environmental Protection), the clean town project of the Punalur municipal corporation. Address the function, Fr. Ponnumuthan said that development had no politics. The bishop said unity of the people was the basis for development and called upon all sections of the people to ensure the success of the project. The launch of the project was on the premises of the Chemanthur private bus stand. Muncipal chairman M.A. Rajagopal and councillors were present. Following the launch, the Kudumbasree, the National Service Scheme volunteers and hundreds of people from all walks of life joined hands to clean the private bus stand and it surroundings. Mr. Rajagopal said that the project was being launched with people’s participation. He said the project would cover all the wards of the municipality. Ward-level committees for the purpose were being constituted.
