False start rule removed
NEW DELHI: The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) has removed the false start rule, except in combined events.
The ‘no false start’ rule will come into effect from next year. This will mean that any athlete who makes a false start will be disqualified.
At its Congress in Berlin, last Wednesday, the IAAF voted 97-55 to remove the false start rule in all events except combined events where one false start per race would be allowed without disqualification. Any athlete making a second false start will be disqualified. — Special Correspondent
