Sanction of train service brings cheer

S. Harpal Singh

Plea to run Bangalore-New Delhi train through Adilabad

Extension of Nanded-Daund passenger to Adilabad sought

ADILABAD: The sanction of a weekly train between Kolhapur and Nagpur cities in Maharashtra via Adilabad has brought some cheer to those who want more number of trains to be run on this track. Re-routing of some long distance trains through Adilabad on Thursday due to the Ramagundam railway station accident is being quoted by activists as the rationale for meeting such a demand.

Based on diversion of the trains, S.P. Pataskar, a retired government employee, contends that the line passing through Adilabad can handle heavy traffic though it has been inaugurated comparatively recently. He has represented to the South Central Railway (SCR) to run the Bangalore-New Delhi (via Kachiguda) train through Adilabad.

Linking Delhi

“If this train is run through Adilabad, it will connect Mahabubnagar, Nizamabad and Adilabad to New Delhi. None of these districts is directly connected with the country’s capital,” he points out.

Among other trains, the activist has also represented for scrapping the present 553-554 Nanded-Adilabad passenger and extending the Nanded-Daund passenger to Adilabad instead. He says pilgrims bound for Shirdi town in Maharashtra will get to travel directly to the holy place and at a much cheaper cost.

Drinking water

Meanwhile, the locally well-known Dokwal family pitched in its support to provide drinking water and refreshments to passengers of trains that were diverted through Adilabad. The trains were diverted from Majri railway station on the main line, about 80 km from here.

The SCR and the Central Railway, Nagpur, had to provide diesel engines for the trains to run on this line, which is not electrified. This is the second time within one year that trunk line trains have been rerouted through Adilabad.

The trains that were rerouted through Adilabad were Hazrat Nizamuddin - Coimbatore Express, Hazrat Nizamuddin - Tirupati Sampark Kranti, New Delhi -Trivandrum Kerala Express, Hazrat Nizamuddin - Chennai Rajdhani Express, the Hyderabad - New Delhi AP Express and Bangalore-Hazrat Nizamuddin Rajdhani Express.
