Discom to buy power from Chhattisgarh

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: To ease the Capital’s power shortage, power distribution company North Delhi Power Limited has tied up with Balco, Chhattisgarh, for 50MW of power and with Monnet Ispat, also in Chhattisgarh, for 70 MW. The tie-up, effective from August 16, will provide power till August 31.

According to a company spokesperson, the additional power will help tide over the deficit caused by lack of rain and high temperatures in North India.

“There has been an increase of over 20 per cent in the power demand against the corresponding period last year. We have made the extra arrangements at high cost in the interest of our consumers in North Delhi and North-West Delhi to supply them reliable power. There is congestion in the Northern and Western link but we have secured the open access approval for supply of the total of 120 MW from Chhattisgarh,” said the spokesperson.

On Friday, the maximum load on the system was 3,928 MW and the Capital’s generation was under 1,000 MW.
