13 more cases reported

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: The number of swine flu cases in the Capital continues to rise with 13 new cases being reported on Friday. Of these, 11 are indigenous while the other two are that of a 14-year-old boy with a travel history from Dubai and a 19-year-old who has returned from Israel.

Meanwhile, a physician -- member of a team of experts testing samples for swine flu -- at the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences here is suspected to have contracted the virus. The professor in the Department of Microbiology, who is heading the team of experts testing the samples, has sent her samples for testing.

“I have sent my sputum samples and am waiting for the results. I have been feeling feverish and having severe body-ache for a couple of days. The results will be available within 24 hours,” she said.

Delhi Health Minister Kiran Walia said: “Delhi has a tight surveillance system and people have been made aware of the symptoms and they need to get to a health centre as soon as they suspect swine flu. Our teams are also trying to ensure that the contacts of swine flu patients are traced and examined for symptoms.”
