BJP to organise protests against ASEAN pact

Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its farmers’ wing will organise dharnas in front of the Secretariat and district centres in the State on Monday in protest against the signing of the free trade agreement with the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN).

BJP State president P. K. Krishnadas told the media that the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government had betrayed the people of the State by signing the agreement which would hit the agriculture sector in the State very badly.

The six Keralite Ministers in the Union Cabinet had done an unpardonable act by not stalling the agreement. “They should be boycotted,” he said.

The State president said that the Centre had been hoodwinking the people of the State by forming a subcommittee to study the issue.
