Swine flu scare grips village
Staff Reporter
Srikakulam: The arrival of five persons, including a child in Kantibhadra village in Kothur mandal, from Pune on Thursday night with fever created a scare, with local people suspecting them to be suffering from swine flue. With Pune being in the news for swine flue, a fear psychosis has gripped the village. The five persons who belong to the village migrated to Pune for earning a livelihood several years ago.
With the medical authorities swinging into action, they were rushed to the Srikakulam RIMS Government Hospital and examined. Preliminary tests indicated that they were suffering from ordinary fever. However, as a precautionary measure, their blood samples were collected and sent to Hyderabad and Pune.
DMHO Vijayasaradhi said that it would take another three to four days for the test results to arrive. The four members were kept in a special ward in the hospital for observation. The villagers who are under the grip of fear even ‘boycotted’ the family members who arrived from Pune. Only after the persuasion of medical personnel, the villagers were convinced that they did not suffer from swine flu but simple fever.
