All 447 graduates of the 2009 batch get ‘excellent’ offers Companies in growth sector like telecom too recruiting ISB graduates HYDERABAD: In spite of the economic slowdown, management graduates of the Indian School of Business (ISB) got lucrative offers this year with the average cost-to-company (CTC) being around Rs.15.1 lakh for each recruit. The number of recruiting firms too increased to 326 from 243 last year. While there was a drop in the figure of large Information Technology seeking placements from ISB, overall there was a greater diversity with a distinct rise in companies from the pharma sector from 5 per cent last year to 11.5 per cent now. Although, everyone was worried about the slowdown, all the 447 graduates belonging to the 2009 batch secured “excellent” offers, said ISB’s senior director, V.K. Menon, who deals with careers, admissions and financial aid. ‘Pretty good figure’The average CTC rose steadily each year and peaked at Rs.18 lakh in 2008 due to booming economic conditions worldwide. That became stabilised this year. Considering the present economic recession, the offer of Rs.15 lakh was a “pretty good figure”, he added. Apart from firms from the traditional areas of consulting, finance, technology and marketing, growth sectors like telecom too picked up among ISB graduates. Another “upbeat trend” this year was that many foreign companies got themselves registered. Although 40 global firms got registered last year, they adopted a cautious approach towards hiring. Normally, foreign firms begin to register in November for next year’s placements. However, they started early this year and already 13 companies from Europe, USA, Hong Kong and Singapore had got registered in July-August. Also, equally positive was the attitude of the companies to accept management graduates who want to shift their careers. He said that on an average close to 55 per cent students of a class in ISB shift their function or industry.
