INTERLAKEN (SWITZERLAND): For once, some of the select cricketers will get a rare, or even a once a lifetime opportunity to celebrate India’s Independence Day on Top of Europe. Kapil Dev along with some of the members of 1983’s World Cup winning team are here for a friendly cricket match against an All Stars UK team, led by former West Indian captain Alvin Kallicharan. Though cricket has been played on ice before, this is the first time when this sport makes its debut on snow. A wooden strip of over 22-yards, covered with mat, has been spread between the two valleys of the Jungfraujoch which is at a whopping 11,333 feet above sea level. This six-a-side contest will feature some of the yesteryear cricketers like Sandeep Patil, Anshuman Gaekwad, Syed Kirmani, Roger Binny and Ajay Jadeja. Those who will take the field under Kallicharan are Geoff Howarth, Chris Broad, John Emburey, Collis King and Neal Radford. Though Kapil was fine with the idea of playing a five-over side, Kallicharan was keen to play at least 10 overs. A red tennis ball, that weighs twice the weight of a normal tennis ball would be used for this unique event.
