DYFI takes out rally

Special Correspondent

Highlighting slogans of anti-imperialism

KANNUR: Workers of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) took out a ‘Prathirodha Sangamam’ rally here on Saturday.

The district-level rally was part of the DYFI’s efforts to highlight the slogan of anti-imperialism on Independence Day, a press release issued here said.

CPI(M) Maharashtra unit secretary Ashok Dhawale inaugurated the rally. He criticised the policies of the Congress-led government at the Centre.

‘In danger’

The economic and political sovereignty of the country was in danger, Dr. Dhawale said. The Indo-ASEAN Free Trade Agreement was the latest instance of the Congress-led government’s surrender to imperialism, he said. The agreement would destroy the economy of States like Kerala, he added.

Centre’s statement

The Central government’s statement during Hillary Clinton’s visit recently that the Doha round of negotiations would be revived raised fears about the government’s possible surrender of the country’s rights, Dr. Dhawale said.

The government had suspended the Doha round earlier because of pressure from Left parties, he added.

DYFI central committee member Reji Zakaria, CPI(M) district secretary P. Sasi, party leaders K.K. Shylaja, P. Jayarajan, M. Prakashan and K.K. Ragesh were also present at the function.
