CHICKABALLAPUR: Braving inclement weather, hundreds of students took part in the Independence Day celebrations here on Saturday. Standing in the rain, the students listened to the speeches of the dignitaries. The weather did not dampen the enthusiasm of the colourfully dressed students from government and private schools, who presented cultural programmes at Sir M. Visvesvaraya district stadium. After hoisting the national flag, Minister for Minorities Welfare, Wakf and Haj, Mumtaz Ali Khan, said the Chickaballapur district administration had submitted an action plan to the State Government to improve facilities for tourist at Nandi Hills at a cost of Rs. 5 crore. Plans were afoot to develop Muddenahalli, the birthplace of Visvesvaraya, on the outskirts of Chickaballapur, by spending Rs. 1.5 crore, the Minister said.
