Four arrested, articles worth Rs. 22 lakh seized

Mysore: The Vijayanagar police have arrested four-member gang in connection with thefts of computers and laptops from industries and commercial establishments.

The police have recovered computer systems, laptops and other electronic gadgets worth Rs. 22 lakh from the four youths who were arrested by a Special Police Squad led by Assistant Commissioner of Police A.K. Suresh. The gadgets, which were sold at throwaway prices, were seized from the buyers, according to the police.

The police said the arrested are: Sharana (24) and Shivaraj (20), both hail from Gulbarga district and were staying near Mysore, and Raja of Hunsur taluk and Shivanna of K.R. Nagar taluk.

The seized goods included 30 computer systems, nine laptops, a mobile phone and two motorbikes. The seized articles were on display at the Vijayanagar police station here on Thursday.

Police Commissioner Sunil Agarwal visited the police station and complimented the police officers of the Special Police Squad for solving the case.

Later, speaking to presspersons here on Thursday, Mr. Agarwal said the accused were allegedly involved in 12 thefts which took place in a span of three months here. The four-member gang used to strike at factories in Hebbal, Hootagalli industrial units and those located on Hunsur Road.

The Police Commissioner announced a cash reward of Rs. 10,000 for the Special Police Squad for cracking the case.
