THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kottayam was in command at stumps on the opening day of the South Zone under-22 cricket match against Kollam at the Medical College ground on Thursday. Prince Joseph (three for 19) made early inroads as Kollam, in reply to Kottayam’s first innings total of 249, was struggling at 96 for six in 28 overs at stumps. Earlier, Jaison Prakash scored a half-century (76) to lend some respectability to Kottayam’s total. At the Agriculture College ground, Pathanamthitta did well to restrict Alappuzha to 200. Jeevan (six for 57) was the wrecker-in-chief for Pathanamthitta. But rain and wet out field brought a pre-mature end to the day’s play. The scores: Kottayam 249 in 62.2 overs (Jaison George 76, Printu Prakash 32, Akash Babu four for 53, Akil Ansar three for 23) v Kollam 96 for six in 28 overs (Vincent 30, Prince Joseph three for 19). Alappzuha 200 in 68.1 overs (Sabin S. Karnavar 46, P.C. Jeevan six for 57) v Pathanamthitta.
