Quivering with life: Quiz master L.S. Ganesh poses questions to the participants at the quiz on Madras, at IIT-M on Thursday. —

CHENNAI: What is the connection between these three bus stands – Pantheon Road bus stop, Gemini Circle bus stop and TVS bus stop?

Probably, it was too easy a question to answer that neither the participating teams nor the audience got it right.

Quiz master L.S. Ganesh from the Department of Management Studies, IIT-Madras, with his friendly and lively style made sure you passed it off with another entertaining question to crack.

“All the three bus stops have a library adjacent to it,” said Prof. Ganesh, making the audience smile at each other. That exactly was what the open doubles quiz on ‘How much do you know about Chennai?’ was about.

Topics

Organised by the IIT Madras Alumni Association Chennai Chapter to celebrate the ongoing Madras Week Celebration here on Thursday, the quiz covered topics on the city – its history, places, locales, resources, people, organisation, events, etc.

Prof. Ganesh with his trivia and anecdotes on Madras never gave you a dull moment.

Try this: What is the record that Ranganathan Street created in the National Urban Survey? It had the maximum density of people per sq. mt. in Asia. It was a good but entertaining guess for all.

Other questions like ‘Why is the Guindy National Park unique in stature among all the other national parks?,’ which significant event happened in 1996’, ‘What is Chennai’s unique claim to fame in the international awards, won by its “sometime” citizens in various fields?’, etc. made sure even the audience jumped to give the answers. It was quiz with a feel-good-factor that enriched knowledge of the city.
