Notice ordered to accused in ‘gifts case’

CHENNAI: A Special Court here on Thursday ordered notice to the accused on a petition filed by the CBI to fix a date for framing of charges in the ‘gifts case’ against former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.

CBI stated that the accused were delaying the proceedings by filing one petition after another. The prosecution case is that Ms.Jayalalithaa allegedly accepted 89 demand drafts for Rs.2 crore in 1992. Besides her, former Ministers K.A. Sengottaiyan and Alagu Thirunavukkarasu have been cited as accused.

Mr.Sengottaiyan has filed a petition seeking discharge from the case, which has been posted for September 4.
