PUDUKOTTAI: A day-long exhibition of various products made by the women members of self-help groups (SHGs) was the cynosure of all eyes at a government function held here on Wednesday to disburse revolving fund of Rs.2.69 crore to a total of 448 women SHGs.
Cashing in on the large turnout of women at the function, the District Supply and Market Society, organised the exhibition, providing ample opportunity for not only marketing the SHG products but also to impress upon the visiting SHG members to understand the nuances of production and marketing the demand-oriented products.
One of the stalls put by the Irundiriapatti SHG Federation, which exhibited bio-products, attracted many SHG women.
Hygienic packs
The products, among things, included the bio-manufacture of boiled rice, raw rice and ragi and other value-added products. Every minute care was taken for attractive and hygienic packing of the products.
Two members of the Federation, M. Parvathi and D. Saranya explained to the visiting SHG members, the manufacturing techniques and the marketing avenues for various bio-products.
Business opportunity
“We grab every opportunity to market the SHG products. The government function came in handy for us to sensitise the people to the importance of bio-products which are not only low-priced but also hygienic,” says Society secretary S. Sathyaseelan.
