BHUBANESWAR: Ravenshaw University has moved an inch closer to finalising its mammoth teachers’ recruitment. “The short-listing has been completed. Panels for subject matter experts as well as evaluation procedure during interviews have been approved by the Executive Council,” Ravenshaw University said here on Saturday. It said the Chancellor also approved the panel of his nominees, who were 13 eminent professionals with wider perspectives, to oversee the selection process. “As a university, Ravenshaw has received government’s approval for creating 153 faculty positions comprising 17 posts of professor, 45 posts of reader and 91 posts of lecturer,” informed Ravenshaw University Vice-Chancellor Devdas Chhotray. Global adRavenshaw had put out a global advertisement for 153 faculty positions and in response more than 7,000 applications were received, Mr. Chhotray said. Intimations will soon be sent to the short-listed candidates for interview. For each vacancy, it has been decided to call seven short-listed candidates to appear before the subject matter experts. Sources said interviews would consist of power point or oral presentation as evidence of teaching expertise, officials informed. After a long gap, faculty recruitment is being conducted for Ravenshaw, one of the oldest institutes of higher learning in the State. For considerations of just and fair handling of the processing, with required competence, the task of verification of eligibility of applicants, and short-listing of eligible candidates was outsourced to the XIMB, Bhubaneswar. Priority had been accorded for selection of candidates for the departments of geology, sociology, english and economics where the shortage of faculty was acute, sources said. The interviews were expected to begin by the middle of September 2009, sources confirmed.
