Raj Babbar to contest Firozabad by-election

Anita Joshua

NEW DELHI: The Congress on Saturday decided to field actor-turned-politician Raj Babbar for the Lok Sabha by-election from Firozabad in Uttar Pradesh.

The seat fell vacant, after sitting MP Akhilesh Yadav, son of Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh who was elected from Kannauj also, vacated it.

Mr. Babbar contested the recent general elections from Fatehpur Sikri on Congress ticket.

He came second after the Bahujan Samaj Party’s Seema Upadhyay.

In the 13th and 14th Lok Sabhas, Mr. Babbar represented the Samajwadi Party in Agra. However, mid-way in his second Lok Sabha term, he fell out with the SP and moved to the Congress ahead of the 15th Lok Sabha elections.
