HOLY: Vinayaka idols being taken at Paramakudi for immersion on Monday. RAMANATHAPURAM: The first leg of Vinayaka idol processions went off peacefully in different parts of the district on Monday. As many as 90 idols of various sizes were immersed in river, ponds and sea in different locations. The procession was started amid tight security at a point near fire service station at Paramakudi. It was taken along Krishna Theatre, bus stand, Santhaipettai, Chinnakadai, Taluk office and culminated at the Vaigai river, where 32 idols were immersed. A large number of people took part in the celebration. In Rameswaram, the immersion procession was started in the afternoon. Amid chanting of slogans by devotees, 12 idols were immersed at sea near Agnitheerthakadarkadai. Most of big size idols were about 8 foot in height. Similarly, idol processions were taken out in Thangatchimadam, Mandapam, Pamban and Pamban. Police said there was no untoward incident reported in the district. In Sivaganga, as many as 65 idols were immersed in different parts of the district. While the immersion at Manamadurai was completed in the morning, it was completed in Thirupattur in the evening.
