TELL TALE SIGNS: Resource person Punitha Natarajan handling a Newspaper In Education (NIE) session at Campion School in Tiruchi on Monday. TIRUCHI: For children, creativity happens in a jiffy. All they need is initiation. Students of standard VIII relished the opportunity to display their creativity by way of coming out with interesting ends to hitherto unheard of stories during The Hindu – Newspaper in Education session on Monday. The module ‘how does it end’ was a component of the theme ‘spin a yarn’. The module was conceptualised to bring to the fore the thinking abilities of the children. In all, the resource person narrated three stories. The first was ‘Scared hare’. It was about a hare that was scared of every noise taking a resolution to get out of fear. Yet, upon hearing loud noise made by frogs, it falls into a pond. From here on, it was up to the students to provide appropriate endings. There was a variety of endings… Like the hare striking camaraderie with the frogs in the pond, the frogs surprising the hare by running away from it due to fear et al. Progressive ideasThe process was repeated with the two other stories: Chotu and its curly tail and Maya’s adventure. The students did not take more than five minutes to pen the concluding few lines. According to Ms. Punitha, the session served the purpose of prompting students to try out progressive ideas fostered by imagination and creativity.
