CHENNAI: Sporting the ‘Hey Ram’ look with beard and long hair, actor Kamal Haasan sits casually attired in a black shirt and white dhoti. In another picture, he sits with composer Illayaraja and actor Rajinikanth. And in another lovely moment captured, he, as a little boy, is seen playing with actor Shivaji Ganesan.

All these rare photographs have been put up inside the ‘Kamal Express,’ which was flagged off at the AVM Studios here on Monday. The special bus is part of the programmes and initiatives that Vijay TV has come up with to mark the actor’s completion of 50 years in the film industry.

Two buses, with such photographs on display and a documentary on the actor playing, will travel across the State, and tour places such as Chengalpattu, Tindivanam, Puducherry, Cuddalore, Tuticorin, Krishnagiri, Namakkal and Salem.

Organisers said that the buses would halt for about an hour at each of these places, and fans of the actor could get in, see the photographs of their favourite actor. Apart from this, the organisers will also collect signatures from fans, artists and technicians on a big scroll that will later be presented to the actor.

Flagging off the bus, film producer AVM Saravanan said that Kamal Haasan, who began his career at the very same studio, brought pride to the State.

President of the Tamil Film Producers’ Council Rama Narayanan and president of the Film Employees’ Federation of South India V. C. Guganathan commended the actor on his achievement.

Representing Mr. Haasan’s family, Akshara Haasan and Subbulakshmi also participated in the event. They said they were proud of him and congratulated him.
