The project is likely to cost Rs. 41 lakh Plea to address safety of pedestrian underpasses Bangalore: The State Government is considering a proposal to make Electronics City as a “cycling zone” to encourage the people to use bicycle to commute within this locality. Mohammed Mohsin, Director of Urban Land Transport Directorate, said the proposal submitted by the RideACycle Foundation was under active consideration of the Government. Speaking during an interactive session to discuss draft guidelines for Bangalore Mobility Indicators-2008 and for pedestrian and parking policies for the city, Mr. Mohsin said the project entailed bicycle hiring points within the locality from where people could hire the wheels and travel from one point to the other. A safe cycling lane would have to be earmarked, he said, pointing out that the project would entail a cost of about Rs. 41 lakh. Meanwhile, there is also a proposal to create a cycling zone in Jayanagar and Basavanagudi mainly to connect educational institutions. Earlier, participants suggested that the Government should address the issue of safety of pedestrian underpasses at night.
