CHENNAI: Several areas in the city and suburbs experienced light showers on Monday evening.
Residents of Anna Nagar, Kilpauk and Perambur said their localities received considerable rainfall around 6.30 p.m. Areas such as Royapettah, Tambaram, Guindy and Koyambedu also had light showers. Motorists in several parts of the city were caught unawares by the rain. While the observatory in Nungambakkam received 11.5 mm of rainfall, the one in Meenambakkam received 0.6 mm of rainfall till 8.30 p.m. The showers for the second day in a row had helped in maintaining the average day temperature of 34 degree Celsius in both the areas.
Officials of Meteorological Department said that the rainfall was due to thundershower activity. There is a possibility of rain or thundershowers in some areas during evening or night on Tuesday and the maximum temperature will be around 34 degree Celsius.
