Programme for paper industry

Staff Reporter

COIMBATORE: The Indian Agro and Recycled Paper Mills Association and the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy will conduct here a workshop and field visit on ‘Bio methanation and Application of Renewable Energy in Pulp and Paper Mills’ on August 28 and 29.

According to a release from the association, with the growth of the Indian paper industry, its power requirements have also gone up.

Solar and bio methanation are major sources of energy and should be harnessed.

A large number of paper mills use bagasse, rice straw, wheat straw, grass and waste paper and the lignin content generated can be used for power generation.

For some applications, solar energy can also be tapped.

The Ministry is supporting such efforts.

The two-day orientation programme will address issues such as power generation from industrial wastes, upgrading various conversion technologies and accelerating the installation of bio methanation projects.
