Man gets jail term

CHAMARAJANAGAR: Chamarajanagar Sessions Court judge Vidhyadar on Tuesday sentenced Puttalingaiah of Hondarabalu village in Chamarajanagar taluk to one year and three months imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs. 5,000 for causing the death of a female elephant in June 2001.

The elephant died when it tried to cross an electric fence put up by Puttalingaiah around his farm in the village.

The Chamarajanagar rural police had filed a charge sheet based on a complaint lodged by the officials of the Forest Department.
