I will give a clarification, says Arun Shourie

New Delhi: Asked to explain his outburst against the Bharatiya Janata Party leadership, senior BJP leader Arun Shourie said on Tuesday that he would give a clarification.

“If there is any ambiguity and the party president and others have asked for clarification, I will clarify. There is no problem,” Mr. Shourie told reporters. He said he had not received any notice from the party leadership and that he had come to know about the party’s decision to seek a clarification from him through the media.

“I will see the written document that they would have sent,” he said. “I am in touch with them. Meri puri tarah se kutti nahi hui [My ties with party have not snapped],” the former Union Minister said.

Earlier in the day, Mr. Shourie refused to speak further on the happenings in the BJP. “I will not say anything. Whatever I have said, I have said... I will speak when the party takes a view [on the issue].” The BJP leadership has given no time-frame to Mr. Shourie to respond to the notice. — PTI

Running party not our work: RSS

Neena Vyas reports:

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh on Tuesday stated categorically that running a political party was not its work.

RSS All-India Propaganda head Manmohan Vaidya issued a statement rejecting the suggestion made by Bharatiya Janata Party leader and MP Arun Shourie that the central leadership of the party should be removed and the party should be “taken over” by the RSS, which, unlike the BJP central leaders, had moral authority. Mr. Shourie had made these remarks during the course of a televised interview on NDTV on Monday night.

The RSS statement said it had seen reports that Mr. Shourie had suggested the RSS take control of the BJP. “The RSS had taken up the work of organisation in society and individual character building after careful deliberation and consideration.

“It was not the work of the RSS to run a political party. To make the BJP run as a political party, to take corrective steps and take it forward is the work of the party leaders. If the BJP wants counsel or help, it can approach the RSS, which would be willing to guide it. The RSS is ready to offer such counsel to anybody or any organisation that seeks it. The RSS is engaged in the work of organising society.”
