BANGALORE: The apparent suicide of a 26-year-old woman on August 24 has been found to be murder and her parents have accused her husband and in-laws of harassment. Sahitya, who hails from Gutti in Andhra Pradesh, was found hanging in her house. Her mother-in-law and sister-in-law called the helpline 108 and arranged to have her taken to Chinmaya Mission Hospital where she was declared brought dead. Sahitya’s parents came to the city a day later and accused the in-laws of dowry harassment. Obalesh and Anjanamma have complained that their son-in-law Manjunath, a travelling ticket examiner with the South Western Railway, and his parents were asking her daughter to bring more money. They had given Rs. 4 lakh and gold and silver jewellery estimated at Rs. 1 lakh at the time of her wedding. “We have registered a case of murder,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Chandra Sekhar. The police said Sahitya’s husband Manjunath, his mother Chidamabaramma and his sister were being questioned. ArrestedThe Jayanagar police have arrested three persons allegedly involved in the murder of Gayatri (25), a legal adviser with a private bank, on August 18. Gayatri, wife of Thoparaj, who is involved in 12 criminal cases, was hacked to death in front of her house at Sakamma Garden in Jayangar. Thoparaj, who was in jail, is accused of orchestrating her murder by hiring the assassins. AttackedFive persons assaulted an autorickshaw driver and took away his vehicle in Peenya II Stage on Tuesday. The police said Ramesh (30) was sleeping in his vehicle parked along with seven others at the autorickshaw stand on Siddaiah Puranik Road. Five persons came and asked him to take them to Peenya. When he refused, they beat him up badly, took him in his autorickshaw to Peenya, snatched Rs. 800 from him and drove away with the vehicle. The Basaveshwara Nagar police later found the autorickshaw abandoned near Hegganahalli near Peenya on Wednesday. SuicideUmesh (30), an autorickshaw driver, hanged himself at his house in Laxmipura in Kadugondanahalli police station limits on Wednesday. The police said his suicide note mentioned frustration in life. Chain snatchedTwo motorcycle-borne men snatched the gold chain of Chandrashekar at Channamanakere Achchukattu police station limits on Wednesday when he was returning from a friend’s house in K.G. Layout to his house in Vinayaka Layout. The gold chain was estimated at Rs. 60,000, the police said.
