Survey found jobs exist in 10 sectors 83 companies enrolled to hunt for candidates
IN SEARCH OF PLACEMENT: Job-seekers giving their details to a prospective employer at the two-day skill development and job fair in Bellary on Friday. BELLARY: A group of women from Sandur in Bellary district, who underwent training in tailoring, were found eagerly waiting for their prospective employer, a ready made garment manufacturer, to give his green signal that they were employed. “We have undergone training in stitching of garments through the department of textiles and handlooms. We have submitted our applications along with certificates issued by the department and have been asked to wait here to get the letter of offer to work in a garment unit in Bangalore,” Ms. Jalajakshi, on behalf of the group, told The Hindu at the two-day Skill and Job Fair that began here on Friday. Archana, a B.Sc. graduate, had come to the job fair and enrolled herself hoping that she would get a suitable job in bio-plants. “If not, I am keen to undergo training in fashion technology. I will wait for the response,” she said. These were among 8,500 young job aspirants, including a large number of young women, with educational qualification ranging between SSLC and PUC/ITI/polytechnic, to enrol their names on the first day of the two-day Skill and Job fair, that began here on Friday. The candidates, after undergoing an aptitude test, were seen going round the stalls where, around 83 employers from different sectors, including automobile, garment, private insurance, computer class operators, security services, machines and tools, had set up their stalls with display of the opportunities to submit their bio-data after an interaction with the head of the stall. Vishnukant Chatpalli, Executive Director of the Karnataka Vocational Training and Skill Development Corporation, which had organised the job-fair, said the response had been good. According to him, nearly 15,000 job seekers were expected to participate in the job fair and hoped to get a similar response on Sunday, when the graduates and postgraduates (including professionals) were expected to participate. Mr. Chatpalli said the demand-driven survey conducted in the district had showed that around 4,800 job opportunities for youths with qualification from VII standard to postgraduates were available in 10 sectors, including automobilie, banks, chemical industry, garments, hospital, production and manufacturing, sales, security, service and IT. He said 83 employers, who are in need of suitable candidates, had participated in the job fair. “The list of job aspirants, based on their aptitude tests and their qualification, would be short listed and informed to the prospective employers and then letter of offer would be given to the selected candidates. Some of them may be absorbed directly and others, who need some fine tuning, would be imparted training in skill development before being put on the job,” he said.
