Government to sanction Rs. 30 crore for Shimoga


Yeddyurappa makes the promise at a discussion

ZP delegation meets Chief Minister in Bangalore


SHIMOGA: President of the Shimoga Zilla Panchayat H.C. Basavarajappa said here on Friday that the Government had agreed to sanction an additional grant of Rs. 30 crore to take up various development works in the district.

Disclosing this at a press conference, he said that Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa made a promise to this effect during a discussion with a delegation of the zilla panchayat in Bangalore on Wednesday.

He said that the others who participated in the discussion included Minister for Rural Development and Panchayatraj Shobha Karandjale, Deputy Chairman of the State Planning Board D.H. Shankarmurthy and Minister for Food and Civil Supplies Hartalu Halappa.

He said that the delegation, led by him, comprised the panchayat vice-president, T. Rama Naik, the chairmen of the Standing Committees, and the panchayat Chief Executive Officer A.B. Hemachandra.

He said that Rs. 1.85 crore, which was meant to be released during the financial year 2008-09, would be utilised for the improvement of rural roads. He said that Rs. 4 crore out of the Rs. 8.21 crore sanctioned for the construction of foot-bridges in the Malnad region would be released.

Mr. Basavarajappa said that out of Rs. 19.63 crore which was sanctioned under the Rajiv Gandhi Drinking Water Sub Mission, Rs. 5 crore would be released for the implementation of drinking water schemes in the villages of Mandagadde in Tirthahalli taluk and Talaguppa village in Sagar taluk. He said that the Government had released the full grant of Rs. 6.23 crore required for the completion of pending works under the rural drinking water supply schemes. He said that an additional grant of Rs. 10 crore to Rs. 15 crore would be released by the Government after the completion of pending works.

Mr. Basavarajappa said that it was proposed to take up the construction of new buildings of 56 high schools and the construction of 146 additional classrooms under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF).

He said that the Government had sanctioned Rs. 9.85 crore for the implementation of the works under these schemes. He said that Rs. 4.04 crore had been released as the first instalment and the balance amount would be released based on the progress of the works. He said that the Government had promised to release Rs. 3 crore for carrying out repairs to existing school buildings, anganwadi centres and hostels in rural and semi-rural areas.

He said that Rs. 36 lakh would be released for the completion of the on-going works pertaining to primary health centres at Yaduru and Ripponpet of Hosnagar taluk and Holehonnur of Bhadravati taluk.
