‘Hasiru Habba’ in Davangere

Staff Correspondent

DAVANGERE: Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa will be in Davangere on Saturday and Sunday. He is scheduled to arrive here at 10.45 a.m. from Mysore and will take part in an RSS convention on both days.

Apart from the convention, the Chief Minister will inaugurate a special programme called “Hasiru Habba”, which has been planned by the district administration. “Hasiru Habba” (green festival) is aimed at encouraging farmers to plant more Honge trees in their fields. The Chief Minister, along with several farmers, will be taken to the venue of the function in buses that run on ethanol. The Davangere division of the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation is testing five ethanol-based buses, and they will gradually replace diesel ones. Briefing presspersons about the programme, Deputy Commissioner K. Amaranarayana said several farmers from 15 gram panchayats who had planted Honge in their fields would be felicitated by the Chief Minister. The district administration had planted over three lakh Honge saplings across the district in an effort to ensure a cleaner and greener Davangere. Mr. Amaranarayana said the administration had pledged to make Davangere greener and steps had been taken to plant various kinds of saplings on forest land.
