ID cards issued to persons with disabilities

People thronging the medical camp conducted to issue National Identity Cards for disabled persons at the Government Girls Higher Secondary School in Krishnagiri on Saturday. —
KRISHNAGIRI: About 2,000 persons with disabilities were issued identity cards through the single-window medical camp conducted at the Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Krishnagiri, on Saturday.
Thousands of people thronged the camp, which was inaugurated by Collector V.K. Shanmugam.
The authorities had identified 28,000 disabled people in the district.
Out of this, 17,000 were screened and issued National Identity Cards. Physically challenged persons were screened by the doctors at the camp. Those who were identified as 50 per cent and above as physically handicapped were extended Rs. 400 monthly assistance.
Children
More than 300 differently-abled children studying under the Sarva Siksha Abhiyan stream were also screened at the camp.
The Collector gave away assistance worth Rs. 4 lakh to 60 physically challenged persons at the camp.
District Revenue Officer A. Shanmugasundaram, Krishnagiri MLA T. Senguttuvan, Bargur MLA K.R.K. Narasimhan, District Disabled and Rehabilitation Officer Manimaran, Revenue Divisional Officer A. Anbarasu, Tahsildhar S. Rajagopal and others participated.
