Hindu Devalaya Parirakshana Samithi warns government

NELLORE: Hindu Devalaya Parirakshana Samithi representative Sri Kamal Kumar Swamiji has appealed to the government to regulate and protect temple properties, ornaments and records in all shrines within a matter of one year.

The Samithi will launch an agitation and take over all the 34,463 temples which are under Endowments Department in the State, if the government fails to do so, he warned.

Speaking to the newsmen here on Saturday, Kamal Kumar said the government should take measures to maintain records of temple properties, make account of earnings and expenditure, revise salaries of priests in all shrines and order an inquiry into the irregularities over disappearance of Endowment properties and misuse of funds. He demanded that the government constitute Temple Trust Board Committees without political leaders for maintaining transparency.

The Swamiji said the rush to Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams has come down when compared to the past few years due to rude behaviour of the staff, poor treatment of common pilgrims and increase in VVIP visits. But the TTD officials are exaggerating the figures, he alleged.

Expressing concern over the increasing robberies in temples , Kamal Kumar said the government should arrange gemologists and experts in Archaeology Department to find out the age and value of ‘Panchaloha’ idols, jewels and diamonds existing in the ancient temples. He called upon the Hindus to come forward to protect the temples. Samithi district secretary Annadevara Vijay Mohan Reddy, VHP district president G.Anjaneyulu and others were present.
