West Bengal chemical hub size conditional on Environment nod

Indrani Dutta

KOLKATA: The size of the chemical hub project in Nayachar in West Bengal will be in line with the environmental nod received for the project, State chief secretary A.M. Chakraborty said. Talking to reporters at the State secretariat after a review of a slew of industrial projects in the State, he said that issues like land acquisition, change of ownership and taking physical possession of land were discussed at the meeting which was also attended by State industry secretary Sabyasachi Sen and Subrata Gupta, the managing director of the State’s apex industry promotion agency the West Bengal Industry Development Corporation.

Mr. Chakraborty said that there was no need to acquire land at Nayachar in Purba Medinipur where the State proposed to set up a petrochemicals, chemicals and petroleum industries region. The project has got the Centre’s green signal, but will have to get clearance from Environment Ministry.

Infrastructure

“Most of the land earmarked for the PCPIR was vested land, but the size of the project will have to be in conformity with the Environment Ministry’s clearances”, he said. 1 sq.km of land with the Centre help was set up for providing the infrastructure. The State government would set up power, drainage and other related infrastructure.

He also said that the State government had not reached the stage of offering land to investors for the project which is likely to attract investment of Rs. 94,000 crore. It will have an anchor investor which will set up the mother plant as well as ancillary industries.
