Plea to introduce Act to check atrocities on the differently-abled Houses for the disabled sought under the Rajiv Gruhakalpa scheme Hyderabad: Members of the differently-abled organisations have demanded that the State government provide three per cent reservation for them in the local body elections, including the forthcoming Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections. The differently-abled persons constitute eight per cent vote bank in the State and unless their representatives were elected to the legislature and other governing bodies, disabled persons plight would not be highlighted, said Joint Action Committee for the Disabled president G. Satyanarayana at a press conference here. Problems expressedUnder the banner of Helen Keller Regional Association of the Disabled (HKRAD), representatives of many different-abled organisations addressed the media and expressed their problems. On the lines of SC/ ST Atrocities Act, it was high time for the government to introduce a similar Act for the benefit of differently-abled persons. Over 5,000 employees work in different government institutions across the State and many of them face lot of humiliation at their work places, said HKRAD president, P.V. Rao. He demanded the government to implement the Persons with Disabilities Act and provide houses for the disabled under the Rajiv Gruhakalpa scheme.
