Discrepancy in emoluments

Sir, — The people who joined public sector industries before 1970 were paid low salaries with no medical facilities.

Their provident fund deduction was meagre. They could not save much for their retirement, after meeting parents’ medical bills and children’s education, marriages etc. After serving for 35 years or more, they got paltry amount as PF and gratuity as retirement benefits. I request the Union Government to provide pension to those retired public sector industrial workers, who joined the service before the introduction of pension scheme.

Change day-train timings

Sir, — The tri-weekly day-train to Bangalore has been scheduled to depart from Mangalore at 8.40 a.m. and reach Yeshwanthpur at 7 p.m. But, it will be difficult for the passengers to reach their houses in Bangalore quickly as it requires about three to four hours to go to places such as Konanakunte, Hoskote, and J.P. Nagar by bus. So the railway authorities should change the train’s departure time at Mangalore to 7 a.m.

Renaming of Bangalore

Sir, — The name, Bangalore, is not much of a distortion of the original name of Bengaluru as say Seringapatam was of Srirangapattana.

Bangalore is well known internationally and there is no need to change the name. In Kannada, it is referred to as “Bengaluru” only. If purists are given a free run, they will change Delhi to “Dehali”.
