All about gender equality

PUDUCHERRY: Students of the Social Work Department of Pondicherry University on Saturday conducted an awareness programme on Women’s Equality Day.

It was held with the support of ‘Hand-in-Hand,’ a non-governmental organisation, working towards eradication of child labour and women empowerment. Over 150 members of different SHGs participated.

A release said that Welfare Officer of the Department of Child and Women Development Gnanavally spoke about schemes initiated by the government for women.

S. Kamalini, Chairperson of the Pondicherry State Women’s Commission, in a special address, spoke about legal provisions for women and importance of marriage registration. She also highlighted the value of suicide prevention helpline (0413 – 2205388) and career counselling helpline that are active on Wednesdays and Saturdays (0413 – 2201154).
