Cooperative bank employees to take out rally in Chennai today

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Cooperative Bank Employees Association has urged the State Government to implement the recommendations of the wage revision committee for the employees of 4,455 primary agriculture cooperative societies in the State.

P.Balakrishnan, general secretary of the association, said though the wage revision committee had submitted its recommendation to the Registrar of Cooperative Societies a year ago, the Government had not issued orders for wage revision.

The Government had regularised 29,000 employees in the cooperative sector still 6,000 employees were yet to be regularised. After the implementation of Prof.A.Vaidyanathan Committee’s recommendations, unnecessary restrictions were imposed to curtail the banking operations being tendered by the PACS. As there are about 4,455 societies in the State which had earned expertise in carrying basic banking operations, they should be allowed to continue their basic banking operations for the benefit of rural people.

In support of their demands, cooperative bank employees from all over the State will take out a rally in Chennai on August 31.

At the end of the rally, a memorandum will be submitted to the Principal Secretary to the Cooperative Department, according to Mr.Balakrishnan.
