THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Half-centuries by Aravind Sharma (75) and Jeevan T. Ganagadharan (58) denied Kottayam an out right win over Pathanamthitta in the South Zone under-22 cricket match at the Medical College ground on Sunday. Forced to follow on after being dismissed for 127 in the first innings, Pathanamthitta gave a better performance in its second innings. At the Agriculture College ground, Thiruvananthapuram drew with Kollam which didn’t enforce the follow on. The host was bundled out for 118 runs in the first innings. Kollam scored 171 for seven in the second innings and set an unlikely target of 359 in 35 overs for the host to chase. Thiruvananthapuram scored 136 for five in 35 overs. With Thiruvananthapuram failing to score an out-right win, Alappuzha won the title with 14 points. The host came second with 10 points. The scores: Kollam 305 & 171 for seven in 40 overs (Jackson Cleetus 58, Akash Babu 46, G.S. Anoop five for 70) drew with Thiruvananthapuram 118 in 33 overs (M.E. Sanuth 40, Subin Sulaiman six for 40, Akhil four for 19) and 136 for five in 35 overs (M. Jithin 38, Subin Sulaiman three for 41); Kottayam 340 for six drew Pathanamthitta 127 in 45.4 overs (Aravind Sharma 43, Ajimon Paul four for 43, Sooraj three for 20) and 200 for eight in 50 overs (Aravind Sharma 75, Jeevan T. Gangadharan 58, Sachin Philip five for 43). — Principal Correspondent
