Bangalore: Mysore Maharaajas, one of the eight zonal teams in the Karnataka Premier League Twenty20 tournament, was launched at a glittering ceremony here on Monday night. The function began with an ensemble dance performance and later, to the accompanying sounds of bugles and drums, the team logo — a shield with a sword and stumps in a mix of blue and yellow — was unveiled along with the squad’s formal and sports attire. Batting legend G.R. Viswanath will don the mentor’s role. KSCA President and scion of the Mysore royal family, Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadeyar, held the sword that symbolised team strength. The team owner D. Kupendra Reddy, who is active in the real estate and automobile sector, said that the team will unearth hidden rural talent. KSCA Secretary Brijesh Patel and former international athlete Ashwini Nachappa also graced the function while brand ambassador, actor Sudeep, termed it to be a honour to share the stage with Viswanath. The function wound to a close with the entire squad led by C. Raghu and coached by the duo of S. Shiraguppi and G.K. Anil Kumar, walking up on stage wearing dapper suits.
